‘Community transport key to better health services’: Audit Scotland

According to a report from Audit Scotland, transport services supplied by the ambulance service, NHS boards and councils to take people to appointments and to access social care services, such as day centres, are costly and inadequate. Public bodies should be investing more in community transport schemes to improve health and social care services and save cash in the long run. NHS boards are failing to fund community transport schemes for what is termed non-essential travel, such as visits to GPs, meaning thousands of often vulnerable patients are losing out. Investment is needed to establish community transport as a viable solution to the current problems.
