The Scottish Government has published the first Literacy Action Plan since devolution. It includes a range of actions from early years through to employment including:
- Vulnerable families to be targeted as part of the Play Talk Read campaign
- Curriculum for Excellence supporting literacy from a child’s early years
- New National Qualifications to support the development of literacy skills
- More support for workplace learning
It is now preparing to launch a refreshed strategy for adult literacies in Scotland. The draft strategy has been informed by a short-life national advisory group. The closing date for comment is Tuesday 30 November 2010.
