Appreciating Assets

The International Association for Community Development has launched an important new resource, ‘Appreciating Assets‘, with the support of the Carnegie UK Trust. It is aimed at helping community development practitioners, activists and policymakers get to grips with what asset-based community development involves at a practical level – taking the view that the primary asset of a place is often its people and their untapped potential. The report explores what is meant by ‘assets’ and showcases a range of asset-based approaches to community development. While it is aimed primarily at the UK and Irish contexts, it draws on experiences from across the globe. For hard copies contact gill.musk@iacdglobal.org.
Further resources are available on www.iacdglobal.org and via Carnegie’s Fiery Spirits Community of Practice, to support learning and exchange activities. If feedback at www.fieryspirits.com/group/assetsinquiry yields ideas about topics that deserve particular focus, the steering group may be able to support practitioner exchanges etc.
