The current national consultation on measuring well-being owes more than a little to several years of work by the New Economics Foundation. This paper is their contribution to the consultation. It recommends that:

• ONS should publish:-
  • a headline indicator of well-being equal to the percentage of people who  are flourishing
  • an indicator of well-being inequality
  • a set of indicators that measure the drivers of well-being..
• these measures become part of a framework which also covers sustainability and economic activity
• policy guidance documents are amended as necessary and officials are trained to use the data

the ONS data is made widely accessible and presented in engaging, interactive formats.
