The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has released its reflections on its five-month national debate on Measuring National Well-being. This asked the question, what matters to you? More than 34,000 people gave their views, which will help statisticians create the UK’s first set of national well-being indicators or ‘happiness index’ by the autumn.

The ONS highlighted the key areas that matter most to people include our health, connections with other people such as family and friends and the local community; job satisfaction and adequate income and wealth; work-life balance; meaning and purpose; the environment and government services.
