CDAS will be working with members and the Scottish Community Development Centre in a short life working group to draw up a detailed response to the recommendations in The Report of the Christie Commission on the Future of Public Services in Scotland. All of the “key objectives” of Christie’s proposed “reform programme” have clear implications for community development work. The challenge for people involved in community development is to be sufficiently clear about the relevance and effectiveness of what we can offer for it to be included in such a programme. A clear and agreed public statement of this would be a key tool for gaining support and recognition for community development approaches and services. The Commission also suggests potentially far-reaching provisions that might be included in the proposed Community Empowerment and Renewal Bill, and we may wish to have an input into discussing these.
